Who doesn’t love Barcelona? It has Barri Gòtic, the Sagrada Família, the Park Güell, the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Picasso museum, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, neighborhoods to explore, wonderful tapas, a decent supply of beaches, multiple parks, and “a wonderful form of Spanish” as I call it, that I missed out on learning in school.

As with all explorations of cities to travel to – when you’re done doing a bit of sight seeing, local cuisine eating and touristy shopping, it’s time to take on the nightlife, and Barcelona doesn’t disappoint when it comes to delivering on such. Hence here are my top picks for a night out and about in Barcelona!

If anyone ever said that grunge was out – they were oh so wrong…Because grunge is definitely in! As a tribute to my favorite king of grunge Kurt Cobain.. The Nevermind bar located in the Gotic Quarter area is where you need to be in order to mingle with Barcelona’s locals, and with those rad skater, surfer, snowboarder, BMXer types. Enjoy the graffiti artwork that covers the walls, sip on a mojito, kick back and enjoy the 90′s grunge..

And just when you thought you couldn’t get enough of a time warp, the Polaroid Bar let’s you hang out in one a bit longer. Sitting near the seaside, also in the Gotic Quarter area, everything that 80′s is honored here with – old VHS tapes, vinyl records and retro film posters glued to the walls, and 80′s soundtracks playing throughout your cheap drink experience. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better – there’s free buttery popcorn!

I love a dark, dingy dive bar that just begins to see some action around 3:30am. It reminds me of when I first came to Berlin 5 years ago I called a friend and asked if she wanted to go out at 11pm, and screamed “no one goes out here till 3am! call me back later”! You know those bars that stay open till sun rise, the kind where you see people coming out of it, while others are going to work… Well the Kentucky is just that kind of bar! Cheap, fun and opened all night!

I personally love all kinds of music from rock to classical, to pop to jazz to electronic.. But what I really love is just some good ole indie/alternative music, which is in the rock genre, I often find:-) If you’re looking for a good indie scene with a mix of graffiti covered walls, then Cassette Bar located in the cooler part of Las Ramblas in Ravalis is where you need to go.

As with any bar located near a staple music venue like Sala Apolo, you’re going to get the pre-gig/pre-show crowd. Maumau is a classier lounge bar compared to the others, so if you’re up for impressing a first date, you might want to head over here:-) They’ve got projectors showing arty films on the walls and screens films on a regular basis. It was once an old factory so it has that airy, open and spacious feeling. They also have membership benefits that make you feel like you’re even more in the “in” club.
