One of the very important social presences that Nokia has is the forum Nokia Support Discussions . I asked my colleagues at @Nokiahelps to find me some guest bloggers for Ovi Blog, and Fender77 is one of the people whom they suggested. As he requested to remain anonymous on the blog, we will only be referring to him by his Nokia Support Discussions username. I hope that more of you will use Nokia Support Discussions to find answers to your questions and help each other out.

Hi, all. You can find me under the user name of Fender77 at the Nokia Support Discussions! I am a Norwegian guy who has what you can call an obsession for gadgets and especially mobile phones. It started out years ago when I got my first phone. I loved the ‘freedom’ it brought with it. I was able to connect with my friends and family no matter where I was at. The downside was that it was a not one of them Nokias, as we called them back then.

It was then I discovered that all my friends ran around with 3210′s, 5110′s and 8210′s. They looked so much better than my device and since then, it has pretty much been Nokia for me.  My first Nokia was a blue 5210 which was amazing. It was small, had a decent battery life and I could send messages with graphics. I remember I sent a whole lot of small black pixeled teddy bears holding hearts to a girl which since then has been together with me. She had actually the same phone too :) It has been 7 years now since we first started sending small “love letters” to each others via text messages. Of course I remember that phone! ;)
After the 5210 it took some while before I got my next Nokia. It was a N95 8Gb. It was rather expensive but had all the features one could only dream about. The camera was just amazing. And I got in to using Sat nav which was very handy from time to time. It was about that time I got into the Nokia Support Discussions, but I didn’t sign up since everything was happening in English, which I felt I wasn’t good enough at. I didn’t really have any major issues with it either, so there was no need to go in depth and ask for things. I just had a look at a few solutions on how to do things with it.

After the N95 8 Gb I got the E71. It didn’t have the camera as the N95, but it was still useful. It did however provide a build quality I had never seen on a phone before and it was extremely snappy. It did also provide my with a battery life I haven’t experienced since.
So, what really made me into Nokia Support Discussions: The N97. That was the reason I joined up. About half a year after I first got it, I was looking for some particular advice with the phone. Searching the net for answers brought me to the Nokia Support Discussions. When first arriving on this forum I realized that I knew some stuff about phones and could answer others. All the time spent trying to make the N97 work as I wanted it to had made me knowledgable about that device. At the same time I got a Nokia 5800 wich I won. Because of the N97 I sold the 5800 but regret that and bought another one which I had for a month or two. I then sold it again and bought some other brands. I still kept the N97.

Anyway, as I have just mentioned, that phone brought me a lot of fun at the Nokia Support Discussions. I kinda got into it as a hobby and still consider it as a hobby where I can discuss Nokia phones, but more like trying to solve people’s problems, related to phones of course! There are a lot of forums around, but I always felt that the Official Nokia Support Discussions had a much more structure to it with decent rules to play after. I felt I was getting more out of that forum than any other. I have also become friends with a few other users there which are really polite and helpful. They also know almost everything there is about Nokia phones.

So together with helping people and getting to know new ways to use my phone (tips and tricks), I have also gotten a few good mates through this forum. Some of them were and still is extremely helpful and nice persons. I have also gotten to know a few mods too. There are three users in particular I would like to thank for their helpfulness. You can find them at the Nokia Support Discussions under the names of; psychomania, cjlim and carman58. There are of course a few other users too, but these three in particular has helped me out a bunch of times since day one.

You might wonder what made me choose Nokia. I have already mentioned some of the things with it, but I will point it out. First of all, the phones  look good and always offer lots of features. Generally the whole package with camera, GPS, WLAN, battery etc. But Nokia has also provided us with services like Ovi. Ovi maps and Ovi Store are those I use the most. You get a phone, but you also get free maps and free navigation (at least for some devices).

You also have Ovi Store where you can get whatever you need – apps like Nokia Battery Monitor, Skype, Finger Print Scanner, and many, many more. Nokia also runs a Betalabs forum where you can try out new apps and features before they are finally released. It let you contribute to the process of making apps and making the phone what it is.

So when I buy my self a new Nokia phone, I don’t just get the phone, but I get the whole universe of Nokia along with it. Lots of different services which are often more than what the other brands offer.

At the moment I have the E7. I loved the form factor of the N97 but wanted some more. The E7 provides me with everything I need and even a bit more.
So for all who are thinking about getting a new phone, I would suggest they take a look at what Nokia offers. Keep in mind that you should not just think of the phone it self but also other uniqe features which Nokia provides. Do you want free maps to download on your phone without using your 3G service and a good web maps component that supports it? Well, as I see it you should go for Nokia.

Thank you all for reading. The pictures added (edexcept for the phones- Surya) are taken with the N95 8 Gb. I enjoy them, and hopefully you will too!

    @Fender, really interesting interview. thanks.
It seems that I have to take a look into the official support forums again.

I have to confess that i only use the forums when I have a special problem.

  • Fender77

@Krishnaswami: Thanks mate. They were there from the beggining, but after a while I have come to know you to. And you are a great guy as well with a lot of knowledge.

@Rikibu: Thanks, You better get back there! :)

@Sitaram Shastri and @Leon Anavi: Thanks for the thumbs up. The pics are taken from BOV (Boat of view;) ) on a lake in middle east of Norway. If you look closely to on the right hand side and left hand side you can see the fishing lines from my two rods from my boat;) The waves in front of the picture are from the motor.

On the other picture, I think I turned the motor off and let the boat just float still. Pictures are from two different days.

@carman58: Would that comment be in a typical carman style, or funnyman style? :D Thanks for the thumbs up mate. You are a great guy, obviously sarcastic, but still great! ;)
